This post is not me bragging about having ran a marathon. OK, maybe a little π
But really, itβs about something unexpected I got from the process. Not from the race itself, but from the journey to it, in particular, the training.
People say the hardest part of a marathon is the training block. Not sure I agree 100% after the suffer fest I had after the 30km mark on Sunday! π΅
The training is hard though. It takes a lot of willpower and mental strength to get up super early in the morning and head out into another cold, dark, wet winter morning run.
But hereβs what surprised me. I started noticing that same mental strength at work.β I started completing those less exciting tasks (ones Iβd usually deprioritise) immediately.
β That gave me a motivation and confidence boost.
β My imposter syndrome slowly faded away and I started backing myself more.
I shifted into a new mindset: “If I can run and train like this, I can take on anything! πͺ”
So, are you feeling a bit stuck, uninspired, or doubting yourself?β‘ Try something different outside work.
β‘ Something hard that pushes you out of your comfort zone.
β‘ Something that reminds you what you’re capable of.
You might be surprised how much it changes the way you show up everywhere else, including at work.
